The female patient, 50 years old, with difficult family circumstances, is the main breadwinner. Nearly 10 years ago, she discovered a uterine fibroid tumor, but due to limited economic conditions, she delayed surgery and only treated it with herbal medicine and cigarettes. Recently, her abdomen has increased abnormally quickly, she has lower abdominal pain, poor appetite and difficulty breathing. When he arrived at Thanh Nhan Hospital for examination, the doctor discovered a uterine tumor measuring over 20cm, occupying almost the entire abdomen, pushing up the diaphragm, causing compression of organs in the abdomen, causing the patient to have a lot of pain and difficulty breathing.
Dr. Tran Quyet Thang - Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, who was directly required to perform the surgery, said: "When the patient was admitted to the hospital, the tumor had developed very large, equivalent to a 9-month pregnancy. The urethra compresses the organs, causing the patient to feel chest tightness, shortness of breath and severe abdominal pain, and skinny. After consultation, we determined that this was a difficult surgery, predicting many risks, so the team had to prepare carefully for anesthesia, resuscitation, blood transfusion and complication prevention.
Due to the large size of the tumor, the surgical method of opening the white line between the upper and lower navel was chosen to ensure safety. During the surgery, the team discovered that the collar was stuck to the uterus, and had to be carefully removed before completely removing the uterus, while preserving both extracts. The surgery lasted for many hours, the patient suffered significant blood loss, and was given 2 additional units of blood.
After surgery, the patient was alert, his blood pressure was stable, and he could eat and drink. Test after surgery 1 day showed that the pigmented blood increased from 9.5 to 11.2 g/dL, with good recovery. The tumor weighed more than 9kg, with abdominal fluid of about 3 liters. The samples have been sent to the pathologist for determination of the nature, expected to be a benign fibromyalgia.
Doctors recommend: Women of reproductive age, premenopause and menopause should have regular gynecological check-ups, because uterine fibroids, ovarian tumors, cervical polyps... often progress silently. If detected early, treatment will be simpler and less complicated".
