On March 18, Vung Tau General Hospital said that it had coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology to successfully perform surgery to rupture cheekbone and jawbone for patients with severe facial injuries, causing complex damage that potentially has long-term effects on both function and aesthetics.
Previously, a patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of bone structure damage in the maxillofacial region, if not intervened in time, it could lead to facial deformity, biting joint disorder and loss of eating and chewing function. Doctors and nurses quickly held inter-specialized consultations, developing an optimal surgical plan to ensure thorough treatment of the injury.
The surgery on March 12 was performed directly by Dr. Pham Nguyen Gia Loc - Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology - with close coordination of the team of specialists from Vung Tau General Hospital. Currently, the patient is awake, in stable condition and is allowed to be discharged.
According to Dr. Pham Nguyen Gia Loc, this is a complex level of maxillofacial trauma, when broken bone fragments need to be corrected accurately and firmly fixed. The goal of the surgery is not only to restore chewing function, but also to maximally restore the face shape for the patient.
The success of the surgery not only contributes to bringing appearance and vitality to patients, but also continues to affirm the increasingly improved professional capacity of the local medical team in handling complex cases.
Previously, many severe maxillofacial trauma cases had been coordinated and successfully treated with surgery at Vung Tau General Hospital. Thereby, contributing to the hospital being able to operate on complex cases in the locality, without having to transfer to the central area of Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.
