On March 10, Can Tho City Police organized a conference to summarize 5 years of implementing the "Good-oriented Bookcase" model in the period 2021 - 2025 and launched the "Good-oriented Bookcase" model for skillful mass mobilization in the period 2026 - 2030.
The "Good-oriented Bookcase" model has been implemented at Detention Center No. 1 of Can Tho City Police since 2021, based on the Coordination Program between the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on organizing cultural, artistic, sports, and library activities in prisons and temporary detention centers.
Currently, the bookshelf has more than 10,000 book and newspaper titles with many contents such as law, life skills, culture, history and good people and good deeds... Thereby, creating conditions for prisoners to access knowledge, improve legal understanding, form correct awareness, thereby actively studying, working and reforming, towards community reintegration.
In the period 2021 - 2025, 905 prisoners participated in borrowing and reading more than 2,323 turns of books and newspapers. Many prisoners had positive changes in awareness, well complied with regulations, actively studied, worked and reformed and were considered for sentence reduction and amnesty according to regulations.
At the Conference, Can Tho City Police announced the decision and launched the Steering Committee for the skillful mass mobilization model "Good-oriented Bookcase" for the period 2026 - 2030. Accordingly, the model will continue to be consolidated, improved in quality and replicated at Detention Centers No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.
Speaking to direct at the Conference, Colonel Nguyen Thanh Trang - Deputy Director of Can Tho City Police - acknowledged and praised the results of the model in the past time. At the same time, he emphasized that building bookshelves in detention facilities not only improves the efficiency of management and education of inmates but also reflects the humanity in the policies of the Party and the State, creating conditions for offenders to access knowledge, correct mistakes and aim for community reintegration.
The Deputy Director of the City Police requested units to continue to maintain and improve the quality of bookcase activities, regularly supplement new and diverse book titles; link reading activities with educational programs, thematic activities, and book introductions to encourage prisoners to actively read books, practice and progress. At the same time, promote the socialization of book sources, mobilize the participation of organizations and individuals to continue to replicate this effective model.
On this occasion, the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City awarded Certificates of Merit to 3 individuals with outstanding achievements in coordinating the organization and implementation of the "Good-oriented Bookcase" model in the period 2021 - 2025.
At the same time, the Director of Can Tho City Police also decided to commend 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in coordinating the organization and implementation of the "Good-oriented Bookcase" model in the period 2021 - 2025.
