On February 2, at two provincial general hospitals in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, during the Lunar New Year holiday, the number of hospitalizations increased compared to normal days, but the number of cases caused by traffic accidents decreased sharply.
According to Ba Ria Hospital, the Emergency Department receives an average of 230 patients per day, an increase of more than 30% compared to normal days and a decrease of more than 10% compared to last year's Tet holiday. Of these, about 70-80% of cases have internal diseases. Many severe cases of stroke, myocardial infarction, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease require hospitalization.
However, the number of patients hospitalized due to traffic accidents only accounted for 10% of the total number of hospitalizations, down about 40% compared to the same period last year.
The Emergency Department of Vung Tau Hospital receives an average of 160-170 patients per day, with the peak on the 3rd and 4th of Tet reaching about 190 cases per day, an increase of about 55% compared to normal days. Of which, many cases are due to injury accidents (including traffic accidents and other causes) about 14 cases per day, also a decrease compared to last year.
According to Dr. Phan Hai Dang - Head of the Emergency Department of Vung Tau Hospital, this year's long Tet holiday, unscientific diet and lifestyle during Tet are the main reasons why many patients had to be hospitalized. However, due to preparation, the unit has performed well in emergency care and treatment for patients during the Lunar New Year.
