On November 24, Tan Cang - Cai Mep International Port (TCIT, Tan Phuoc Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that it had exceeded the 2 million TEU (1 TEU = 1 container about 6.1m long) approved in 2025.
On the morning of November 24, container number ABC68 loaded onto One GRUS (a member of the EC3 service route to the US) brought the TCIT Port to the 2 million TEU mark for the third time. This is the third time this port has exceeded the 2 million TEU mark, and is also the year that reached the milestone the earliest compared to the years that reached the milestone in 2020 and 2021.
According to TCIT, the event took place in the context of the global economy and shipping in 2025 continuing to be affected by geopolitical conflicts, escalating operating costs and increasingly strict green transformation requirements. At the same time, when output increases, ports also face great pressure on infrastructure, unloading capacity and exploitation organization; affecting the overall service quality of the whole region.
This makes logistics and import-export activities require a higher level of optimization. Although the market has fluctuated a lot, the unit has reached the milestone 22 days earlier than in 2020; and 1 month earlier than in 2021.
Currently, the port operates 12 international service routes, receiving mother ships with a capacity of nearly 174,000 DWT and connecting with ports and industrial parks through a feeder, barge and transport system. With the current growth momentum, the output in 2025 is expected to reach about 2.2 million TEUs.
