Speaking at the conference "Meeting Korea in Da Nang: Opportunity to enhance cooperation between Da Nang and Korean partners" within the framework of the Vietnam - Korea Festival in Da Nang City in 2025, Mr. Doan Ngoc Hung Anh - Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Da Nang City - said that the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Korea was officially established on December 22, 1992, since then the relationship between the two countries has developed strongly, becoming a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership".
From July 1, 2025, the new Da Nang City was established on the basis of merging the old Da Nang City and the old Quang Nam Province. With an area of nearly 12,000 km2, Da Nang City is currently the largest centrally-governed city in the country.
Not only possessing a strategic position in the Central region, Da Nang plays a key role in connecting the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).
In addition, Da Nang possesses modern transportation - logistics infrastructure with 3 deep-water seaports, 2 international airports, Nam Giang international border port, 2 world cultural heritages, 1 world biosphere reserve recognized by UNESCO, quality human resources and a favorable investment environment.
The Government's decision to establish an International Financial Center in Da Nang also opens up opportunities for the city to become a strategic destination for global large corporations, multinational corporations, large investors and reputable financial institutional decisions. From there, building Da Nang into an investment - financial "gateway" for the country and the region. These are potential sources for the city's sustainable development in the new era, a driving force to attract investment and cooperate in development, especially with partners and localities in Korea.
According to Mr. Doan Ngoc Hung Anh - Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Da Nang City, Da Nang City has recently established friendly and cooperative relations with 8 localities in Korea including: Changwon, Daegu, Osan, Hwaseong, Yongin, Gwangyang, Jeju and Pyeongtaek with many practical cooperation programs in various fields.
In terms of investment, as of December 2024, Da Nang City has 345 investment projects from Korea with a total investment capital of about 1,332 million USD, mainly focusing on the manufacturing and service industry. In terms of investment capital, Korea ranks 4th out of 45 countries and territories with investment capital in Da Nang.
In terms of trade, in the first 6 months of 2025, the export turnover from Da Nang to the Korean market is estimated to reach about 25 million USD. On the other hand, the import turnover from Korea to Da Nang City is estimated at 36 million USD.
Regarding tourism, in June 2025, according to data from the Immigration Department, the number of Korean visitors to Da Nang is estimated at 870 thousand (accounting for 32.74% of international visitors to Da Nang), reaching 94.5% over the same period in 2024. accounting for 39.4% of Korean visitors to Vietnam (Korean visitors to Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2025 will have more than 2.2 million visitors).
Da Nang City identifies South Korea as one of the leading strategic partners based on a solid foundation of cooperation and similarities in development vision.
