Previously, from 2024, the investigating agency received information about crimes related to a case with signs of illegal possession and transportation of drugs. During the expanded investigation, functional agencies determined that it was related to Dao Xuan Son (born in 1956, residing in Cau Dong village, An Quang commune, Hai Phong city).
When conducting a search of Son's residence in the area of Cach Ha village, Nam Son commune, An Duong district, Hai Phong city (old), functional forces discovered and seized a red metal box, inside which there were 12 cylindrical bullets.
At the investigating agency, Dao Xuan Son confessed that around the end of 2020, while walking from Do Son towards the center of Hai Phong city, when arriving at the Rao 1 bridge foot area, in Duong Kinh district, Son picked up a white nylon bag containing 12 bullets.
Instead of handing over the ammunition to the authorities, Son took it all home to hide. The ammunition was placed by Son in the drawer of the drinking table in the worship room on the 3rd floor for the purpose of "collection".
The investigating agency seized all exhibits and forensic examination, determined that 11 bullets were military ammunition, of which 10 were unused; the remaining 1 was used, unusable and not on the list of weapons.
From the investigation results, the Investigation Security Agency of Hai Phong Police determined that Dao Xuan Son had illegally hidden 11 bullets that were military weapons for a long time. Although the ammunition was picked up by Son, Son did not report or hand it over but continued to keep it for personal purposes.
Based on the documents and evidence collected, Dao Xuan Son's actions are sufficient to constitute the crime of "Illegally possessing military weapons", as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 304 of the Penal Code. Recently, the People's Court of Hai Phong City tried and sentenced defendant Dao Xuan Son to 27 months in prison for the above crime.
