NGUYÊN ANH |

Kien Giang - During this year's Lunar New Year holiday, traffic was stable, the number of traffic accidents decreased, and there were no traffic jams.

According to the Traffic Safety Committee of Kien Giang province, during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty 2025 (from January 25 to February 2), the whole province had 6 traffic accidents, killing 5 people and injuring 3 people. Compared to the same period in 2024, there were 6 fewer accidents, 6 fewer injuries, and 1 more death.

There was no serious traffic congestion in the province. The provincial police force organized more than 500 patrols, checking nearly 9,800 vehicles, issuing more than 500 tickets, handling nearly 300 cases, and paying more than 1.2 billion VND to the state budget. Of which, there were more than 200 cases of alcohol concentration violations, more than 90 cases of speeding, temporarily holding 340 vehicles and 229 vehicle registration papers of all kinds.

Passenger transport services at ports and wharves are guaranteed, fully and promptly meeting the travel needs of people and tourists. Security and order in the port and wharves areas are guaranteed.

According to the Provincial Police, since the implementation of the Law on Road Traffic Safety and Order and Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP of the Government, the traffic safety and order situation in the area has had positive changes.

Since January 1, 2025, the traffic police force in the province has organized 50 direct propaganda sessions at schools, agencies and residential areas in the area. Through propaganda, new points of the road traffic law have been disseminated so that people can grasp and raise their awareness of compliance, ensuring safety for themselves and other traffic participants.

According to the provincial police, preliminary statistics of the first 20 days of implementation have shown many positive changes in the awareness of traffic participants, the number of violations has decreased compared to the previous period. Through patrolling and controlling, the traffic police force detected 694 violations, a decrease of 916 cases (a decrease of more than 56%). Of which, alcohol concentration violations decreased by more than 45%, speed violations decreased by 50%.

Controlling violations of alcohol concentration has formed the habit and culture of "If you drink alcohol, don't drive", controlling and handling overloaded vehicles and vehicles with extended cargo beds when participating in traffic, which has received public approval and high appreciation.

With the goal of continuing to reduce traffic accidents, creating a safe traffic environment, and protecting people's lives as a top priority, Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP has increased the level of administrative penalties for groups of acts that are intentional faults of vehicle drivers and owners.

These errors are the main causes of traffic accidents, traffic jams, and damage to traffic infrastructure, such as: not obeying traffic lights; not obeying traffic signs and road markings; going in the wrong direction; driving on the sidewalk; overloading at a high level, carrying more people than the prescribed number, giving the vehicle to an unqualified person (without a driver's license) to participate in traffic...

In addition, the measure of deducting points on the Driver's License is a humane state management measure, both creating favorable conditions for people to continue driving when they have committed traffic violations without having all points deducted, ensuring daily life, and self-managing and being aware of the remaining points to participate in traffic proactively, responsibly towards themselves, the community and society.
