On April 25, Lao Bao Commune Police (Quang Tri province) said that they had sent a document to agencies and units in the area requesting coordination in managing and preventing the use of "Nam thoong" (Kratom) water among young people.
According to the police agency, recently there has been a situation where a part of young people in border areas seek to buy and use this type of water. This is a product of unknown origin, showing signs of affecting the nervous system, posing a potential risk of leading to illegal acts.
Notably, the purchase and sale and use of "Nam thoong" takes place small-scale and discreetly, making it difficult to detect. Meanwhile, there are currently no specific regulations for handling, causing many difficulties for management.
Faced with the above situation, Lao Bao Commune Police proposed that the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and member organizations strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to raise vigilance, manage their children, and not use water of unknown origin. At the same time, forces need to proactively grasp the situation in residential areas to promptly detect and handle it.
The Youth Union is requested to promote communication among union members and youth about the harmful effects of this type of water; proactively provide information when related cases are detected.
Secondary and high schools in the area are also requested to strengthen student management, integrate propaganda content in schools, and promptly exchange information with the police force when signs of violations are detected.
Nam thoong" is a type of water cooked from leaves of foreign origin, light brown in color, with a light fragrance, usually stored in plastic bottles and sold for tens of thousands of VND per bottle. Currently, this type of water is creeping into a part of young people, posing a risk of affecting health and local security and order.
