Receiving the Tet holiday notice, Ms. Minh Anh - an office worker working in Phu Loi ward (Can Tho City) took the opportunity to visit her familiar hair salon to "renovate" her appearance before returning to her hometown.
Ms. Minh Anh said that at the end of the year, there is usually a lot of work, and she is busy taking care of young children and cleaning the house, so beauty treatments must be done close to Tet to have time, even though this is the time when everyone needs to take care of their appearance.
I have to book a week in advance to have a place. At the end of the year, everyone wants to beautify themselves, so the shop is always full of customers," Ms. Minh Anh shared.
According to reporters' records, in the days leading up to Tet, the atmosphere at hair salons and nail salons in Can Tho City has become bustling, with customers coming in and out continuously.
Mr. Nhieu - representative of a hair salon in Phu Loi ward - said that from the beginning of December of the solar calendar, the number of customers has started to increase. Especially, after the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month, the number of customers increased sharply because many people who went to work far away returned to their hometowns for Tet. On average, each day, the salon welcomes about 15-20 pre-booked customers, not including outbound customers. The most popular demand is still haircut, bending, straightening, and dyeing.
Normally, it opens at 8:30 am, but at this time it is already open at 7:30 am. At the end of the day, we work until about 12 pm when customers are gone. Last year, there were days when we worked until 2-3 am, but this year we rebalanced to ensure health," Mr. Nhieu shared.
Mr. Nhieu said that service prices remain the same as usual. Currently, the salon has about 7-8 employees, mostly workers trained from long-term students. According to the plan, the shop will operate until the end of the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, then take a break for employees to return to their hometowns for Tet and reopen on the 10th day of the first lunar month.
In Gia Hoa commune (Can Tho City), the hair salon owned by Mr. Phong is also operating at full capacity to serve the beauty needs at the end of the year.
Mr. Phong said that the shop currently has 4 workers, including 3 main workers and 1 assistant worker. These days, on average, it serves 10-15 customers per day. Working hours are longer than usual, opening from 7 am to about 11-12 pm.
The closer to Tet, the more customers increase because many people have completed their year-end work, so they take advantage of going for beauty treatments. Some days the shop works continuously, with almost no rest time," Mr. Phong said.
Also according to him, the end of the year is always the peak period of the beauty industry. After a busy year with work and life, many people want to refine their appearance to confidently welcome spring, reunite with family and meet friends. That psychology makes hair salons always fully booked in the last days of the year.
Although sometimes there are so many customers that they don't have time to rest, everyone is happy. Customers are happy because they have beautiful hair to welcome Tet, and I am happy because I have more income to take care of my family," Mr. Phong shared.
Not only hair salons, nail salons are also entering the peak period of serving customers for beauty treatments at the end of the year.
In Phu Loi ward, Ms. Nhung - representative of a nail salon - said that from the 23rd to 24th of the lunar calendar onwards, the number of customers increased significantly. This is the time when many women have completed cleaning, decorating their houses and starting to spend time taking care of themselves before the New Year.
“The salon welcomes 10–15 customers every day. During Tet, most customers have a need for a full-package nail beauty treatment, so each set usually takes about 2–3 hours to complete,” Ms. Nhung shared.
Although the intensity of work increases in the last days of the year, according to Ms. Nhung, this is also the time that brings the best income in the year for nail salons.
