On September 11, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to deploy the investigation task of determining the current forest status in Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
This is an activity that has been previously directed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province previously issued a decision and implementation plan.
In particular, relevant units will determine the current status of forest area, forest and sinhosphere reserves, and carbon reserves of forests in the entire forest area and forest land.
According to estimates, the units will conduct an investigation on a total of 513 standard boxes with an area of 1,000m2/bo and 35 standard boxes with an area of 500m2/bo for natural forests; 455 standard boxes with 500m2/bo for planted forests; 30 standard boxes with 500m2/bo for mangrove forests, phren flooded forests, and freshwater flooded forests.
On that basis, a report on the results of the investigation will be developed; maps of forest status and summary tables... Expected to be completed before November 30, 2025.
Mr. Ho Truc Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City - commented that in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, there are very large and potential forest areas, such as in Binh Chau - Phuoc Buu and Con Dao areas.
"The process of investigating the current forest status will develop detailed reports, on that basis reporting to Ho Chi Minh City as a basis for implementing carbon credits in the coming time. Therefore, it is necessary to assign specific tasks to forest rangers, closely coordinate with communes, wards and special zones to implement it most effectively," Mr. Truc emphasized.
