Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City said that the school year time plan framework of the Ministry of Education and Training clearly stipulates that it starts from September 5 and ends on May 31, ensuring 35 weeks of actual teaching.
Regarding the Lunar New Year holiday schedule, we must wait for the document of the City People's Committee. However, schools can proactively arrange exemption plans to ensure enough actual school weeks according to regulations.
"Previously, the Department planned to propose that students will have a Lunar New Year holiday for about 2 weeks, however, to avoid the case of last-minute changes like in previous years, this year as well as other localities, within the school year, the Tet holiday schedule will follow regulations. The Department will study and propose a Tet holiday schedule for the whole week, which means taking a weekend off and going back to school at the beginning of the week," Mr. Minh informed.
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a 2025-2026 school year schedule for preschool education, general education and continuing education in the city.
semester 1 starts from September 5, semester 2 starts from January 19, 2026 and ends before May 31, 2026.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of more than 2.5 million students (an increase of more than 39,600 students compared to the previous school year).
