On May 19, the Bo Trach District Forest Protection Department (Quang Binh Province) said that the forest rangers and Phuc Trach Commune Police are taking steps to handle a tree suspected to be a large amount of thorn wood that has just been discovered by people in the Ben Trooc underground stream (Phuc Trach Commune, Bo Trach District).
In the immediate future, the authorities will prepare a case file, clarify the origin of this wood, and determine whether it is wood from the forest flowing out in the water or buried by someone. The wood stump has now been seized and transported to the headquarters for preservation.
After completing the documents and verifying the type, if there is a handling plan such as an auction, the financial industry will establish an appraisal council. In case it is necessary to display at the museum, there must also be a decision from the competent authority of the province.
Previously, on the evening of May 17, a local resident suddenly discovered a large piece of rotten wood that was partially hollowed under the mud in Ben Trooc stream - the buffer zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. The authorities suspected that it was a thorn.
By the morning of May 18, the authorities had organized a salvage and took it back to the headquarters. The estimated weight is up to hundreds of kg.
The case is currently being further investigated and clarified by the authorities to be handled in accordance with regulations.
