Jony Ive - Apple's legendary design director has shared many times about his ultimate ideal for the iPhone. It is a device that looks like a piece of glass, without edges or defects. The iPhone X launched in 2017 marks the first step forward with a border overflow screen and the removal of the traditional Home button.
Now, according to sources, Apple is preparing a new iconic iPhone model for 2027, the 20th anniversary of the launch of the iPhone with a design that is said to be closest to Ive's vision.
According to journalist Mark Gurman (Bloomberg), Apple is developing a "glass-rich" iPhone Pro model, using a completely new design with a four-sided curved screen and no borders or grooves exposed.
This information is reinforced by a new report from ET News saying that Apple is preparing to negotiate with Samsung Display and LG Display to discuss the screen technology for this special iPhone.
Although there are still 2 years left for Apple to complete or adjust the plan, observers expect this to be the time when Apple launches an iconic iPhone model, marking the next leap in design.
Before the 20th anniversary, Apple was expected to launch the super-thin iPhone 17 Air in the fall of this year and the iPhone Fold in 2026. But the special iPhone model of 2027 is truly a device with the spirit of "one pair of glasses" that is Jony Ive's unfinished dream.
