According to U Minh Thuong Commune Police (An Giang), in the past time, electric fishing has tended to decrease, but this situation still occurs in some sections of rivers and canals in the commune. To protect aquatic resources, in addition to propaganda and mobilization of people, the Commune Police drastically implement strong measures to prevent and stop this type of exterminatory exploitation and fishing.
Previously, on May 19, 2026, on the river in Minh Tien A hamlet, U Minh Thuong commune, An Giang province, U Minh Thuong commune police discovered Le Van Hau, (born in 1994, residing in Minh Tien hamlet) using a motorboat and electric shock device to illegally exploit seafood. Tangible evidence temporarily seized 1 set of electric shock devices, vehicles, and machinery related to fishing.
Through working, Le Van Hau admitted the violation. Based on the Government's Decree stipulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of aquaculture, the Commune Police issued a decision to impose an administrative fine of 4 million VND.

Recently, on May 30, the Anti-Corruption, Economic, Anti-Smuggling, and Environmental Crime Investigation Police Department of An Giang Provincial Police said that they had inspected and discovered a facility producing and assembling electric shock tools for fishing, illegally profiting more than 700 million VND.
Previously, the Anti-Corruption, Economic, Anti-Smuggling, and Environmental Crime Investigation Police Department of An Giang Provincial Police coordinated with relevant units to inspect an unlicensed production and business establishment owned by D. C. K. (born 2000, residing in Vinh Phong commune, An Giang province). Through inspection, functional forces discovered that the establishment was producing and assembling electric shock devices (electric shockers) specialized for fishing; seizing 2,970 components of various types, many tools and means for assembly, and many electric shock devices that had been completed but had not yet been put on the market for consumption.
Working with the police agency, K. confessed that from about June 2022 to now, he and his wife have hired 3 workers to produce electric shock devices at home. Every day, K.'s group assembles from 3 to 5 electric shock devices. To date, the facility has produced and consumed about 2,880 electric shock devices of all kinds on the market, illegally profiting about 722 million VND.

In addition to drastically handling violations, the Police have also strengthened propaganda measures to the people, mobilizing people to hand over electric shock tools, committing not to use electric shocks to exploit aquatic products, and at the same time organizing patrol activities to promptly detect and combat the illegal use of electric shocks to exploit aquatic products. In U Minh Thuong area alone, the Commune Police seized 5 sets of electric shocks.
The use of electric shock (electric shock) to catch aquatic products is a "destructive" exploitation method, causing many consequences and harms such as killing a series of aquatic species and aquatic life in the water area or aquatic products that are electrically contaminated and survive will not develop and lose their reproductive capacity, eggs and larvae will also be completely destroyed. It takes many years to restore the aquatic environment. In addition, the use of electric shock to exploit aquatic products also directly endangers the lives of users, even leading to death because just a little carelessness can cause unpredictable consequences.
The police call on people to strictly comply with the provisions of law on seafood exploitation; absolutely not to produce, trade, store, and use electric shock for seafood exploitation; not to catch seafood using electric shock and hand over electric shock fishing tools... In addition, it is necessary to boldly denounce to the police agency the act of storing, transporting, buying, selling, and using electric shocks to catch seafood in order to protect aquatic resources and protect the ecological environment.
