Mrs. Geumdarae's journey to find her granddaughter - an exciting musical dedicated to Vietnamese children's audiences, co-organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam and the Korean International Cultural Exchange Foundation.
Within the framework of the "Touring K-Arts" project supported by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and KOFICE in cooperation with the Korea Performing Arts Support Center (KAMS), the musical will be held at Hanoi Children's Palace Campus 2 (May 2nd and 3rd) and Ho Chi Minh City Children's House (May 7th and 8th).
The musical "Journey to find Geumdarae's granddaughter" is based on a Korean folk song performed by the traditional art troupe Janchimadang. This is one of the typical traditional Korean Gugak musicals and is based on the Seodo folk song "Geumdaraekkung" passed down in Hwanghae region (Korea).
The story begins when Mrs. Geumdarae loses her granddaughter named Boony. On the journey to find her granddaughter, animal friends perform Samulnori and help her find her beloved granddaughter. Bear friends play drums, mischievous tigers play small gongs, gentle deer play Janggu drums, rabbit friends perform gongs and traditional disc spinning (beona), all together creating a colorful and interesting adventure.
The program will have a Vietnamese exchange section, creating opportunities for Vietnamese children to directly participate in the play with Korean artists. Vietnamese audiences can also directly participate by chanting accompaniment of Korean chanting words, singing folk songs "Geumdaraekkung" and trying the traditional Korean dial spinning game (beona).
Ms. Park Chan A - Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam said that this is a musical that conveys a meaningful message that "when we help each other overcome difficulties, everyone will be happy together".
Ms. Park Chan A also expressed hope that Vietnamese audiences will have the opportunity to experience traditional Korean games and through music, the two countries Vietnam - Korea can understand each other better.
Audiences can register to enjoy musicals (free) through the official Facebook page of the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam.
