On July 30, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Van Lau signed and issued Official Letter No. 327/UBND-KT directing the synchronous implementation of solutions to respond to and minimize damage caused by thunderstorms and tornadoes in the city.
Recently, Can Tho has continuously experienced heavy rain with thunderstorms and tornadoes, causing many houses to collapse and have their roofs blown off, seriously affecting people's lives. In this situation, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested departments, branches, sectors and People's Committees of communes and wards to strictly implement key tasks.
The leaders of the City People's Committee requested the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City and socio-political organizations to increase propaganda, mobilize people to proactively respond, and mobilize resources to support people affected by natural disasters.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment strengthens inspection of natural disaster prevention and control; guides the implementation of the "4 on-site" motto; monitors weather forecasts for timely response; reviews and proposes upgrading dykes, reservoirs, drainage systems and natural disaster prevention works. Improve the capacity of the advisory department; direct the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Fund to support funding; periodic and surprise reports on the natural disaster situation.
The Department of Construction is assigned to review the drainage system, ensure the safety of traffic infrastructure works before the flood season; overcome flooding in the inner city; promptly handle landslides and traffic disruption incidents.
The Department of Finance coordinates with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to advise on allocating funding to implement natural disaster prevention and control tasks according to regulations.
The City Police proactively deployed forces and means to support people in responding to and rescuing people when natural disasters occurred. The City Military Command completes the Civil Defense Command; reviews and completes the plan to mobilize forces and means to support localities in responding to natural disasters.
Commune and ward People's Committees closely monitor the development of rain and storms; promptly notify people; propagate and mobilize people to proactively prevent them. When natural disasters occur, it is necessary to quickly mobilize forces and means to support and minimize damage; at the same time, update and deploy response plans in localities; inspect and overcome areas at risk of landslides and low-lying areas; handle violations related to irrigation works and dykes.
When there is a natural disaster incident, the Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune or ward must quickly report to the City People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment (through the Irrigation Department) to promptly organize support.
