On May 26, the People's Committee of Hai Lang district (Quang Tri province) confirmed that the impact of heavy rain on the night of May 25 and early morning of May 26 caused minor floods, causing many fields in Hai Truong, Hai Hung, Hai Chanh, Hai Binh, Hai Son communes and Dien Sanh town to be partially flooded.
Preliminary statistics show that the rice and crop area in the Summer-Autumn crop was flooded for about 500 hectares.
At Tho Dong Cooperative (Dien Sanh town), water from the O Lau River rose, causing landslides in some sections of the dike, threatening to sink all 200 hectares of rice.
From 5am the same day, the government and people have focused on human resources, mobilized machinery, used sandbags to reinforce the canal banks, operated pumping stations and dredged irrigation canals. By 9:00 a.m. the same day, the rice area here had been basically saved.
Currently, the Hai Lang district government has directed communes and towns to proactively implement flooded plans and respond promptly to limit damage.
