Vinh Long launches mangrove forest restoration project linking sustainable livelihoods

Vinh Long - The mangrove forest restoration project associated with sustainable livelihoods has been launched, contributing to increasing resilience and improving community livelihoods along the coast.

On July 28, in Duyen Hai ward, Vinh Long province, IUCN coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to organize the launching ceremony of the mangrove forest restoration project to support sustainable livelihoods, and at the same time train on developing aquaculture models in mangrove forests.

At the program, delegates were informed about the current status of mangrove forests, the risks affecting the ecosystem, solutions for restoring, protecting and developing forests associated with livelihoods. The organizing committee also introduced an overview of the project and launched the management team.

Representatives of households participating in the project signed commitments with IUCN and the Sub-Department of Forest Protection and Biodiversity. The activity demonstrates the community's companionship in protecting, restoring mangrove forests and developing sustainable livelihoods.

The training content focuses on the shrimp - forest model, the role of breeds, probiotics, mineral supplementation, biodiversity conservation and forest planting solutions in extensive aquaculture ponds, helping to improve production efficiency.

The program also spent time discussing with people about difficulties, support needs and the possibility of applying the model in Con Tau and Con Trung, thereby agreeing on coordination directions in the next phase.

In the afternoon of the same day, delegates and people participated in planting mangrove trees in Khom Con Tau, Truong Long Hoa ward. The activity contributed to restoring the coastal ecosystem and increasing the ability to adapt to climate change.
