U19 Vietnam is in Group A at the 2026 U19 Southeast Asian Championship along with host U19 Indonesia, U19 Myanmar and U19 Timor Leste. This is considered a challenging group for coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's team, especially in the competition with host Indonesia for a ticket to the next round.
According to the schedule, U19 Vietnam will start with a confrontation with Timor Leste on June 1. 3 days later, the team will meet U19 Myanmar before closing the group stage with a confrontation with U19 Indonesia on June 7.
This year's tournament has 11 participating teams, divided into 3 groups. In which, 2 groups have 4 teams and 1 group has 3 teams. After the group stage, the top 3 teams in each group and the second-placed team with the best results will win the right to enter the semi-finals.
To prepare for the tournament, U19 Vietnam had a training trip in Japan to improve physical strength and expertise. The players focused on improving physical strength, organizing tactics and strengthening physical training.
The team's preparation process in the past time has not been really favorable in terms of personnel. Many players of the U19 generation still serve clubs in the V.League and First Division. In addition, some faces born in 2008 also have to balance between training, competition and the plan to review for the high school graduation exam.
Despite facing many difficulties, U19 Vietnam is still expected to make a mark at this year's tournament thanks to a young force with great potential and a long preparation process in the past time.
