The power outage occurred in the context that the capital is experiencing the peak heat days of summer, with the highest temperature of the day reaching over 40 degrees Celsius.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. D.Q (Cao Trung village, Hoai Duc commune) said that at about 10:30 pm on May 25, the area where he lives and some neighboring communes such as Van Canh suddenly experienced a power outage.
Due to the impact of severe hot weather and prolonged power outages, many households had to leave their homes in the middle of the night to find a place to avoid the heat. In his house area, electricity was restored at 3 am on May 26.
At night, the temperature reached 34 degrees Celsius, plus many hours of power outages, making it impossible for my family to live normally. The whole family had to move to another place to sleep in the middle of the night," Mr. Q shared.
Power outages during peak heat have greatly affected people's lives.
Right in the night, many families in the alley had to take their children to shopping centers and supermarkets to avoid the heat. The prolonged power outage has disrupted people's lives, making it extremely difficult," said Mr. Binh (Hoai Duc commune).
Regarding the cause of the power outage, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Hanoi Power Corporation said that the electricity consumption capacity in the Capital yesterday increased to a record high due to the impact of intense hot weather.
According to this unit, during peak hours, electricity demand increased sharply when many households simultaneously operated cooling equipment, leading to phase mismatch in some areas. The technical department of EVN Hanoi had to increase duty, handle incidents and implement phase balance to ensure stable operation of the system.
In addition, many households also encounter the situation of automatic circuit breakers due to overloaded electricity during peak hours.
According to EVN Hanoi, prolonged hot weather has caused electricity demand in the capital to continuously increase, putting great pressure on the power operating system.
From the dispatch center, 110kV substations to each street and residential area, EVN Hanoi force is maintaining a 24/24h on-duty state, strengthening operation supervision, equipment inspection and proactively handling overload risks to ensure that electricity supply for daily life, production and business of the capital's people is always maintained stably and safely.
When the capital's electricity demand increases, each shift at the dispatch center, each inspection on the power line, substation or each street contributes to keeping the electricity flow operating safely and stably.
