On June 28, Mr. Vo Duc Dien - Chairman of Cua Tung Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said that the local government had just coordinated with the Youth Union to organize the awarding of a certificate of merit and a reward to Le Duc Trung (17 years old, residing in Liem Cong Tay village, Cua Tung commune, 12th grade student of Cua Tung High School).
The commendation aims to promptly commend Trung's courageous spirit in rescuing drowning people.
On June 24, Cua Tung High School also organized commendation and reward for Trung.
In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province has also submitted a report to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, the Provincial Emulation and Commendation Council for consideration and proposal to award a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister to Le Duc Trung for his courageous act of rescuing a drowning person.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that at 2:00 PM on June 21, while having lunch with his family at a restaurant on Da Nhay beach (Bac Trach commune), Le Duc Trung suddenly heard the shouts of Ms. Pham Thi Thuong (Nam Hong Linh ward, Ha Tinh province) when her two young children were swept away by large waves.
Without hesitation, Trung and his relatives immediately rushed into the sea to rescue. While Trung's family approached to bring their grandson ashore safely, baby girl N.K.A was dragged very far by the whirlpool, 80m to 100m from the shore, constantly struggling in the fierce waves.
Wearing his clothes, the 17-year-old male student poured his strength into swimming far away, overcoming big waves to approach the victim. Thanks to his swimming skills trained since childhood and composure, Trung skillfully helped the little girl swim against the fast-flowing water, bringing the victim back to shore safely amidst the bursting joy of witnesses.
Standing on the shore, Ms. Ta Thi Le Na (Trung's mother), although her two legs slumped because of fear when she saw her son facing danger, still placed her whole trust in her son's swimming skills. That belief came true when Trung brought the baby ashore, even though he was exhausted and vomited continuously afterwards.
Admiring the life-saving grace, after returning to Ha Tinh, Ms. Thuong shared the story with her daughter's touching diary page on social networks to express her deep gratitude to the Quang Tri male student.
According to the leader of Cua Tung Commune People's Committee, Le Duc Trung's actions not only show courage and willingness to help others in times of hardship, but also contribute to spreading good human values in the community, especially to today's young generation.
