The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has had outstanding weather and climate assessments since March 2026. Accordingly, March closed with unusual weather developments when the general temperature continuously maintained at a high level, leading to the establishment of a total of 29 temperature records at many meteorological observation stations.
5 monitoring stations in Hanoi record record temperatures in March
In the Northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa-Hue, the average temperature is generally 1 - 3 degrees Celsius higher than the multi-year average, other areas are generally at a level close to the multi-year average.
According to statistics, these historical values not only appear in the criterion of the highest daily temperature but also record an increase in the average monthly temperature, stretching from the northern mountainous provinces, the Northern Delta region to the North Central region.

Notably, 4 records for the highest daily temperatures were newly set in March.

Summer 2026 is likely to be more intensely hot

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, ENSO conditions are likely to change phases and tilt hot from the second half of the year along with the impact of climate change, summer heat in 2026 is forecast to be longer and increase in intensity compared to the average of many years, even more intense than in 2025.
The Head of the Weather Forecast Department added that from April 2026, hot weather tends to increase in most areas across the country. Hot weather is likely to appear more intensely than the average of many years, concentrated in the Northwest region, provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the South.
From the end of May 2026, hot weather will gradually expand to the entire Northern and Central regions, intensity will increase sharply and maintain peak periods in June - August 2026. From around September 2026, hot weather will tend to gradually decrease but there may still be unusually late hot spells" - Mr. Huong said.
