According to the news released at 4:30 p.m. from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, through monitoring on satellite images, thunderstorm location data and weather radar, it was discovered that convective clouds were developing and causing rain in the areas of Nam Tu Liem, Thanh Xuan, Hoang Mai, Ha Dong districts and Thanh Tri district.
In Hanoi area, it is forecasted that in the next 30 minutes to 3 hours, this cloud area will continue to cause rain in the above districts, then spread to other districts in the inner city. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
In the Northern region, in the evening and night of September 15, there is forecast to be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 10 - 30mm, locally over 50mm.
In the Central and South Central regions, in the evening and night of September 15, there are forecasts of scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall from 15 - 30mm, and some places experiencing over 80mm.
In the Central Highlands and the South, from the evening of September 15 to the evening of September 17, there is forecast to be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 40 - 80mm, locally over 150mm. Rain will be concentrated in the afternoon and at night.
On the night of September 17 and September 18, the Central Highlands and the South will continue to have moderate to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain with common rainfall of 20-40mm, and some places experiencing over 90mm. Rain will be concentrated in the afternoon and at night. Heavy rain in the Central Highlands and the South is likely to last until around September 19.
The Meteorological Agency warns that thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind. The risk level for natural disasters caused by heavy rain, tornadoes, and lightning is level 1.
Localized heavy rains can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
