Currently, a tropical depression is active in the East Sea. It is forecast that this situation will affect both sea and land weather. Lao Dong Newspaper reporter talked with Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting about the scenario of tropical depression.
Sir, what people are concerned about is whether this tropical depression has the potential to become a storm or not?
- Tropical depression is formed on the tropical convergence zone, with asymmetric cloud areas. With such a cloud circulation structure, we believe that it is unlikely to strengthen into a storm and is more likely to weaken into a low pressure area when it moves inland.
When is the forecast time for the tropical depression to reach land, sir?
- Currently, the tropical depression in the south of the Hoang Sa archipelago causes strong winds at level 6 in the Hoang Sa archipelago area, west of the middle of the East Sea.
Impact of tropical depression in the coastal area, the area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai with strong winds at level 6. According to our assessment, the circulation of the low pressure will move tomorrow afternoon and evening to the mainland, causing a period of heavy rain in the Central region.
Sir, with such a scenario and operating time, what is the forecast for the impact of this tropical depression?
- Noteworthy comments on the southern sea area: Tropical depression combined with strong southwest winds will cause strong winds and large waves in the northwest waters of the area between the East Sea and the southwest waters of the region. The northern region of the East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa archipelago) and the offshore waters from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai have strong showers and thunderstorms, strong winds at level 6, gusts at level 8, and rough seas.
On land, with a west-northwest movement, the circulation of this tropical depression will combine with southeast winds to cause heavy rain in the Central region. Rain focus tonight and tomorrow July 15. The rain will mainly concentrate in the Quang Tri area returning to Quang Ngai.
Then when the tropical depression moves inland, the southeast wind will cause rain in the area from Quang Tri expanding to the Northern Delta and Northeast coastal areas such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh from the night of July 15.
Also note that the southwest monsoon is causing heavy rain in the Central Highlands and Southern regions.
Sincerely thank you!
