This afternoon (July 28), Ms. Tran Nhu Quynh, Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, provided the latest information about the heavy rain situation taking place in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa, Central Highlands and Southern regions.

According to Ms. Quynh, the cause of rain in the North is that in the North, there is a northwest-southeast low trough with axis passing through between the Red River Delta and North Central region combined with subtropical highlands encroaching west, establishing wind convergence at an altitude of up to 5000m.
From this evening to tomorrow morning (July 29), heavy rain will continue to occur in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa. Heavy rain will mainly concentrate in Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Lao Cai, Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang provinces with common rainfall from 30 - 60mm, locally over 150mm. Especially pay attention to soil and rocks currently in a state of waterlogging, so beware of heavy rain that may cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes" - Ms. Quynh advised.
According to the Forecaster of the Weather Forecasting Department, from noon to afternoon tomorrow, July 29, wind convergence in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa will gradually weaken, so rain will decrease significantly. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms will still appear in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa.
As for the South, the cause of rain is that in the South, the southwest monsoon is currently operating with strong intensity combined with the wind convergence process.
From this evening (July 28) to July 30, moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms will appear in the Central Highlands and Southern regions, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 50 - 110mm, locally over 170mm. In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Heavy rain is also likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas.
From the night of July 30, the southwest monsoon will operate with gradually weakening intensity and the wind convergence zone will gradually shift to the west, so on the night of July 30, on the Central Highlands and Southern regions, there will only be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain in some places. Rain will concentrate in the late afternoon and evening time" - Ms. Quynh said.
Rainfall calculated from 7 pm on July 27 to 3 pm on July 28 in some places over 120mm such as Dao San 3 (Lai Chau) 124.2mm, Vu Oai (Quang Ninh) 135.9mm, Co Phap (Bac Ninh) 138.8mm, Trieu Son (Thanh Hoa) 124.8mm, Do Luong (Nghe An) 148.6mm, Dai Lao - Bao Loc (Lam Dong) 151.2mm, Bao Loc (Lam Dong) 146.8mm...
