Heavy rain in the North gradually decreases from July 29th
According to Ms. Pham Thi Cham, Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the afternoon (July 27) to the end of the night of July 28, the Northern region will experience moderate to heavy rain over a wide area.
The entire mountainous and midland area of the Northern region, including Cao Bang and western Lang Son province, is forecast to have moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall from 70 - 120mm, locally very heavy rain over 250mm. These are also provinces that have had continuous thunderstorms recently, so soil and rocks have become saturated, so if there are more heavy rains, the risk of flash floods and landslides is very high, so people need to be very vigilant" - Ms. Cham warned.
Representatives of the Weather Forecast Department also added that other places in the North also have rain, but the rainfall is less, generally from 50 - 100mm, locally over 150mm.
The Central Highlands and Southern regions from the evening of July 27 to July 29 are also forecast to have concentrated thunderstorms in the afternoon and night. The total common rainfall in 2 days is forecast to be from 40 - 100mm, locally very heavy rain over 200mm. Thunderstorms are accompanied by dangerous weather phenomena such as tornadoes, hail, thunder and dangerous strong gusts, so people also need to pay close attention" - Ms. Cham advised.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting forecasts that from July 29, heavy rain in the Northern region will gradually decrease. In the Central and Southern highlands, from July 30, heavy rain will gradually decrease.
Risk of flooding on rivers in the North
Regarding the hydrological situation, currently, the water level on the main rivers in the Northern region is changing slowly and below alarm level 1.
From tonight (July 27) to July 29, a flood is likely to appear on rivers in the Northern region, with a flood amplitude of 2 - 5m. During this flood, the peak flood on small rivers will reach alarm level 1 - alarm level 2, some rivers above alarm level 2. The peak flood on the upper reaches of the Thao, Chay, Lo, Thuong, and Cau rivers will reach above alarm level 1.
High risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous and midland provinces; flooding in low-lying areas along rivers in the Northern region.
Warning level of natural disaster risk due to floods is level 1. Floods on rivers and streams can cause flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, affecting activities such as waterway traffic, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's livelihoods and socio-economic activities.
