The launching ceremony of the "RE:EARTH - For Green West Lake" event was held on the morning of June 20 in response to the 2026 Action Month for the Environment and the movement "All people join hands to protect the environment, for a green - clean - beautiful Vietnam".

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Environment (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that West Lake is not only a famous scenic spot, the largest natural lake of Hanoi, but also a "green lung", playing a core role in regulating microclimate, preserving diverse ecosystems, maintaining urban landscapes, and at the same time being a key cultural, spiritual and tourism center of the Capital.

However, under the pressure of rapid urbanization, the West Lake ecosystem is currently facing very large environmental challenges from wastewater, domestic waste, especially plastic waste, packaging... from service and recreational activities around the lake. In fact, in the past time, we have witnessed signs of surface water pollution through the phenomenon of lake water turning into dark moss due to strong algae growth, or the situation of localized fish deaths drifting ashore every time the weather changes season.
Protecting West Lake is no longer the responsibility of just one agency or organization, but requires the strong joint efforts of the whole society, from state management agencies, businesses, international organizations to the awareness of preserving from the smallest actions of each citizen.
From the international organization's side, Ms. Park Min-hye, WWF-Korea, said: "Plastic pollution is a common challenge for many countries and needs to be addressed through the joint efforts of the government, businesses, social organizations and the community. At the same time, today's activity is not just a waste collection program, but also a symbol of positive cooperation between Vietnam and Korea in responding to global environmental challenges.

Within the framework of the event, all delegates participated in a series of activities to collect plastic waste and exchange gifts; cycling to promote community awareness. The Organizing Committee presented 200 Eco RE:EARTH ecological shopping bags and the "Green Volunteer" certificate to volunteer collectives.
