The reason people object to the exploitation of sand and gravel
On the afternoon of April 14, when the business brought vehicles and machinery to the Thac Ma river bed area (Tan Son village, Hai Son commune) to level and scoop sand at the location near Khe Muong Bridge, dozens of people in Tan Son village focused on asking the construction unit to stop operating.
People said that this area is located near the residential area, has a system of arterial bridges and is strongly affected in the rainy season, so the exploitation of sand greens can cause landslides.

Ms. Tran Thi Mam (72 years old, living in Tay Son village) said that her family lived here for a long time, witnessing many large floods. If now scooping sand right at the foot of the bridge, the rainy season is very susceptible to water drifting.
Not only Mrs. Mam, Mr. Tran Quoc Anh (residing in the same village) and many other households signed a petition to the local authorities and authorities, proposing to review the licensing. "This is an area near the population, if massively exploited, landslides will seriously affect houses, production land and traffic safety," Mr. Anh said.
Mr. Anh added, even in the process of completing licensing procedures, people have repeatedly reacted. However, up to now, businesses still implemented construction, causing people to go directly to the scene to protest.
Carefully review project records
Facing fierce reactions from the people, the People's Committee of Hai Son commune asked Nguyen Hoang QT Co., Ltd. - the unit licensed to suspend operation and provide full legal documents of the project for inspection.
Mr. Nguyen Van Trong - Director of Nguyen Hoang QT Co., Ltd. said that the enterprise has been licensed by the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province to exploit sand, gravel and pebbles in the My Chanh River (another name is Ma Waterfall) by an open method at OL6 mine, an area of over 14ha. According to Mr. Trong, the unit has completed the procedures and is in the process of constructing the gathering yard when the reaction from the people. "We are currently suspending all activities, waiting for the authorities to enter the settlement," he said.
Regarding the project, Mr. Le Van Huan - Chairman of Hai Son Commune People's Committee - said that the government had held a meeting previously, but there were mixed opinions. Some households on both sides of the river do not have clean water, they have to use river water, so they are concerned that the exploitation will cloud water. In addition, many people suggest not to be exploited in rivers with houses because of the high risk of landslides.
Mr. Huan affirmed: "We will hold a dialogue meeting with the people, and at the same time review the entire project file.
