Updated from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, currently, cold air has affected most of the Northeast, North Central, and some places in the Northwest.
The Gulf of Tonkin area has strong northeast winds of level 6 - 7, gusting to level 8.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this evening and tonight, November 26, cold air will continue to affect other places in the Northwest, then affect the Central Central region. Northeast wind inland is strong at level 3 - 4, coastal areas at level 4 - 5.
"Due to the impact of cold air, the North and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue experienced a cold spell. The lowest temperature in this cold air in the North and North Central regions is generally from 16 - 18 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 11 - 13 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas below 10 degrees Celsius. This is the first widespread cold spell in the North this winter" - Mr. Huong said.
However, according to a representative of the meteorological agency, the most notable impact of this cold air mass is causing heavy rain in the Central region.
"The cold air mass from November 26 to 28 will cause widespread heavy rain from Nghe An to Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, with the focus of rain being Quang Binh and Thua Thien - Thua Thien Hue with total rainfall from 200 - 300mm, Thua Thien Hue area may have spots with rain of over 500mm" - Mr. Huong warned.
Localized heavy rains can cause flooding in low-lying areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
Especially in late November and December, with the continuous impact of cold air, the Central region will often have widespread moderate and heavy rain.
Regarding the impact of cold air on the sea, the Gulf of Tonkin has strong northeast winds of level 6, gusts of level 7 - 8, rough seas, waves 2 - 3.5m high; the North East Sea area (including the Hoang Sa archipelago) has strong northeast winds of level 6 - 7, gusts of level 8 - 9, rough seas; waves 2 - 5m high.
