The Wimbledon organizing committee has decided to adjust the already famous costume regulations strictly, allowing players to wear black ice covers on their hands to commemorate Diogo Jota - the Portuguese football star who recently passed away in a car accident in Spain. The accident also took the life of his younger brother - Andre Silva.
Since the tournament was established in 1877, Wimbledon has always maintained the regulation that tennis players must wear complete white clothes, which is clearly stated in the law and strictly supervised. Allowing black ribbon is a rare exception, reflecting the respect the sports community has for Jota.
Many players have expressed their sadness at this loss. Rafael Nadal shared: "This is so sad and painful news. I would like to express my deepest condolences to Jota's wife, children, family and friends. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre.
Francisco Cabral, expressed: Jota is not only a Portuguese football legend, but also an inspirational model throughout the world. He has a great family of three children. I haven't had time to wear a black belt in today's match, but I will definitely do it in the next round."
