Deploying garbage collection after complaints
Over the past time, Lao Dong Newspaper has had many articles reflecting the situation of waste being dumped in the wrong places on many roads and public areas in Dong Hoi ward (Quang Tri province). This situation has formed spontaneous waste collection points, causing environmental pollution, urban unsightliness and directly affecting people's lives.
Immediately after the reflection, on July 11, the Dong Hoi Ward General Service Center mobilized forces and vehicles to organize the collection of accumulated garbage at hot spots.
On Nguyen Huu Tho street, where many piles of domestic waste and ownerless construction waste once appeared, an excavator and two trucks were mobilized to collect and transport all waste to the treatment site of the environmental unit in accordance with regulations.
Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong, Head of the Urban and Technical Infrastructure Management Team - Dong Hoi Ward General Service Center, said that most of the waste in this area is construction waste and illegally dumped waste, and the owner cannot be identified.
In addition to cleaning up, the unit also conducts reviews of locations that frequently generate illegal dumping to have long-term management measures to avoid recurrence.
In parallel with the collection work, Dong Hoi Ward People's Committee requests residential groups to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people, business households and construction units to strictly implement regulations on collection, transportation and treatment of waste, and not to dump garbage and construction waste into the environment.
Notably, during the inspection, functional forces discovered and handled a case of dumping solid domestic waste in the wrong place. The violator was filed for handling, forced to collect all waste and transport it to the treatment site according to regulations before implementing the penalty decision.
Install surveillance cameras
Not stopping at collecting accumulated garbage, the Dong Hoi ward government has identified a long-term solution as strengthening supervision to prevent the situation from recurring.
According to Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong, the unit has installed two surveillance cameras on Nguyen Huu Tho street, including one camera at the beginning of the route intersecting with Tran Quang Khai street and one camera at the end of the route.
In addition to the camera system, the General Service Center will arrange forces to regularly inspect the scene, and at the same time coordinate with the residential group and the Ward Police to monitor the operation of waste transport vehicles" - Mr. Cuong said.
Also according to Mr. Cuong, when detecting cases of illegal dumping of garbage, functional forces will invite violators to the Ward Police headquarters for handling according to regulations and request to remedy all consequences, collect and transport garbage to the correct treatment location.
The synchronous implementation from collecting garbage, strengthening patrols, installing surveillance cameras to strictly handling violations shows the drastic involvement of local authorities, contributing to preserving the environment and building a green, clean and beautiful urban landscape in Dong Hoi ward.
