On the morning of September 5, Huong Lap Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province) held the opening ceremony .
At this school, 100% of the students are children of the Van Kieu and Pa Co ethnic minorities living along the Vietnam - Laos border area.
The school is far from the village, so the children are given the opportunity to stay at the boarding school and only go home once a weekend.
The most difficult situation is for primary school students in Cu Bai village (Huong Lap commune), who have to cross the flooded Ta Leng stream to get to school. Families with means can take their children by motorbike, but most of the children have to wade across the stream to get to school.
Knowing this difficulty, on the morning of September 5, the Border Guard Station of Huong Lap Commune (Border Guard of Quang Tri Province) sent 15 officers and soldiers divided into 2 groups. One group went to remote villages to remind children to go to school, the other group was on duty at Ta Leng stream, when the students arrived, they were carried across the stream.
Major Pham Ngoc Toan - Acting Chief of Huong Lap Commune Border Guard Station - said that on the opening day, the teachers at the school were busy, so officers and soldiers supported them by calling students and carrying them across the stream to get to school safely and in time for the opening ceremony.
On this occasion, Huong Lap Border Guard Station also presented 1 TV and 3 gifts to the adopted children of the border guard station at Huong Lap Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.
