A white night, a transplant, many lives are revived

A soldier was revived thanks to donated liver leaves from a brain-dead person. The arrangement spread the message " giving is forever".

On the afternoon of June 23, an emergency liver transplant was successfully performed at 108 Central Military Hospital (TWQD 108), continuing the life of a young soldier thanks to a noble gesture from a brain-dead organ donor.

Information from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center said that a brain-dead patient due to a traffic accident at E Hospital, Hanoi was approved by his family to donate organs to save his life. Upon receiving the news, the medical team of 108 Central Military Hospital immediately set off to E Hospital to take the liver to promptly transplant to a patient waiting for a liver transplant.

Reviving from a priceless gift

The organ donor was a young man who did not survive a serious accident on the afternoon of June 22. His family overcame the pain to make a brave decision to donate organs. It is that humane act that has sown new life for many others.

After receiving the donated liver, the Department of Surgery for the Syphilis of the 108 General Hospital quickly determined that the transplanted person was a soldier of Army Corps 12, currently treating liver tissue cancer on the basis of cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B. When he knew the appropriate organ, the patient could not hide his deep emotion and gratitude to the donor's family and the medical team.

Ongle transplantation is a professional story, but organ donation is a story of humanity, a human conscience that contributes to building a charitable society - Major General, Professor, Dr. Le Huu Song - Director of 108 Central General Hospital shared. "We are deeply grateful for this noble gesture".

Regaining life all night

Due to unusual developments in transplant resuscitation, the ability to maintain stable liver donation until the next morning is very fragile. The hospital director urgently summoned the liver transplant subcommittee for online consultation on the evening of June 23. The liver collection team led by Associate Professor, Dr. Le Van Thanh - Acting Director of the Institute of Gastroenterological Surgery and Director of the Department of Surgery of the Immunoc Bypass - quickly went to Hospital E to take the liver and transport it to Hospital 108 Central Committee at 2:00 a.m. on June 24. The left liver muscle was transferred to a pediatric patient at Vinmec Hospital.

The liver transplant for a military patient was performed that night. After 4 hours of emergency surgery, the transplant was successful when dawn had just risen on the Red River. The patient was completely conscious and was transferred to the Department of Resuscitation, Surgery and Organ Transplant for monitoring.

Dedicated to every detail

Despite the tight surgery schedule, the doctors still tried their best, not afraid day and night, to save the patient's life. Every preparation step is carefully carried out, from assessing the recipient's condition, predicting risks, making detailed plans to ensure successful transplants and optimal recovery of the patient's health.

Every step is a race against time, and any mistake is the fault of the organ donor. Therefore, we work with the highest concentration - MSc. Dr. Vu Ngoc Tuan (Department of Surgery, Nephrology) said.

Behind each transplant is the smooth and decisive coordination from the Board of Directors to specialized departments, from surgery, resuscitation, testing, infection control to administrative - social. That is a clear demonstration of the spirit of "racing against time" for the patient's life.

Each transplant is not only the result of medical knowledge, but also a symbol of humanity, a message of love to the community: "Giving is forever".
