Having gone through hundreds of years, the Cổ Chất temple still preserves traditional architecture, including the following components: Tam quan, temple, temple roof, ancestral house, and supporting projects. The Tam quan temple is 5.2 meters high and was built in the style of a one-way pavilion. The front and back have ventilation, but no doors; the two sides are built with a closed end. The Tam quan temple is divided into three compartments with four wooden pillars made of lim wood, following the structure of stacked rường giá chiêng, seven front, seven back, and a tiled roof.

The longitudinal and transverse beams on the roof are carved with dragon chầu motifs in the style of Hậu Lê art, dating back to the 17th-18th centuries.

The front gate, consisting of three compartments, was built during the Nguyễn dynasty using entirely brick and mortar materials, with a vaulted ceiling. The Tam bảo temple consists of eight compartments built in a row with wooden components in the style of Hậu Lê art.

In 1992, the Cổ Chất temple was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic.

Mr. Nguyễn Minh Khâm, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phương Định Commune (Trực Ninh District), said that the Cổ Chất temple was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1992. Every year, from the 5th to the 7th day of the third lunar month, the Cổ Chất temple will hold a festival to express gratitude to the ancestors who built the village.

Notably, the National Treasure, a gilded candle holder and incense burner made of glazed pottery from the Mạc dynasty, is a relic collected at Cự Trữ Temple and Cổ Chất Temple (Phương Định Commune, Trực Ninh District, Nam Định Province), which is now preserved at the Nam Định Provincial Museum.
