On the morning of June 27, the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association in coordination with the Da Nang City Urban Planning and Development Association organized a scientific conference with the theme "Urban Architecture Planning Work with Da Nang City's Cultural Heritage". The conference aims to find sustainable planning and architectural solutions, helping to preserve and promote heritage values in the context of increasing urbanization speed.
Architect Tran Ngoc Chinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association - said that Da Nang and Quang Nam create a large and unique regional linkage space in the Central region. This is a land that owns a diverse natural ecosystem and heritage, from Son Tra peninsula, Ngu Hanh Son scenic spot, to historical rivers such as Han River, Thu Bon River, Co Co River, Truong Giang River, and world cultural heritages such as Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary.
However, along with economic development are significant pressures on cultural space and heritage. The rapid urbanization process, the increase in high-rise buildings, tourist areas and coastal real estate projects are narrowing public space, affecting traditional architecture and changing the inherent natural landscape.
According to architect Tran Ngoc Chinh, if there are no appropriate planning and management solutions, the city is at risk of losing the continuity of the historical space, blurring local identity and affecting the urban memory of the residential community.

At the workshop, delegates focused on in-depth discussions through key topics, going from theoretical basis, world heritage planning trends to the practice of heritage buffer zone management and rural cultural preservation in Da Nang. Many experts and scientists also proposed architectural solutions, general planning orientations of the city to 2050 - 2075 and changing the mindset of heritage urban management to both promote new dynamic spaces and preserve local historical identity.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Le Tri Thanh - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang City emphasized:
The space of Da Nang city after the merger is larger, more potential, but opportunities and challenges are also intertwined. Unlike the old space that was mainly concentrated in the central urban area, the new space has expanded to mountainous areas, remote areas and islands with many rich river, sea, mountain, and forest ecosystems. This diversity poses a difficult problem in organizing the development space of a modern city.
According to Mr. Le Tri Thanh, the development of the city is not only in transport infrastructure, industrial, commercial or service networks contributing to economic growth, but also in how to preserve and promote residents' living spaces, preserve biodiversity and green corridors. How to integrate and balance the development requirements of a national growth pole with preserving indigenous cultural features, historical traditions and unique human values of Quang land is a very big challenge, not simple to solve.
