Mr. Phan Thanh Cong - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ninh Binh province said that the Ninh Binh provincial education sector implemented a pilot program of teaching the main curriculum for 5 days/week right at the time the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular No. 29/2024/TT-BGDDT, dated December 30, 2024, regulating extra teaching and learning, which has set out requirements for adjusting the education plan in schools, especially at secondary school level.
After Circular 29 was issued and applied, there have been many changes in teaching and learning in schools. The education sector of localities has proactively proposed initiatives and reforms in line with reality, the regulation of 5-day/week schooling in Ninh Binh is an example.
Not only Ninh Binh, many localities have piloted or consulted on letting students have Saturdays off. This means that students only study 5 days/week, with two days off, Saturday and Sunday.
Students' parents and public opinion once thought that the curriculum was too heavy and the achievement problem, so students had to endure the pressure of studying. So the way to reduce pressure is to reduce the workload, take exams, and increase rest and play time for students.
However, even in the parent community, there are many opposing views, many people think that if they take a day off from school on Saturday, their children will stay at home, no one will manage them, and going to school with teachers will be more beneficial.
However, education is not only about stuffing knowledge with books but also helps students develop comprehensively. In addition to the curriculum, students need to access other subjects of talent training and skills such as martial arts, music, painting, swimming and other sports.
Parents must boldly pull their children out of the burden of studying, practice sports, arts, develop talents, and can thereby discover talents.

Ninh Binh and some localities have allowed students to study 5 days/week, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to consider to have general regulations applicable nationwide. Of course, when giving students 5 days/week, the curriculum must also be designed appropriately.
