The class has been organized by the Youth Science and Technology Development Center in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City for 10 years to create living space for the elderly.
And as a result, it's unbelievable that the students, even though some were 90 years old, after a period of participating in the class, found real joy with the technological "games" of the 4.0 era.
Elderly men and women are guided to create and skillfully use Email, Facebook, and Tiktok to transfer and receive money via mobile applications, order food via applications, make video calls to children and grandchildren, and search for information online. and even join groups to share life experiences on social networks...
By participating in this class, elderly men and women with poor vision and hands have overcome difficulties and technological barriers to eliminate the generation gap with their children and grandchildren, find joy and increase their growth. cohesion in the community.
The old men and women in the story are also living examples of the spirit of overcoming difficulties in learning. They come to class not only to learn how to use smartphones, tablets or access the internet, but also to prove that age is not a barrier to acquiring new knowledge.
Recently, outside of Ho Chi Minh City, very useful technology classes for the elderly like this have also been opened by organizations, associations of the elderly and a number of universities, training centers... in some localities such as Hanoi, Da Nang and Can Tho.
However, that is still too little, nothing compared to the actual needs of the elderly in Vietnam - about 11 million people (accounting for about 11.9% of the total population), according to the General Statistics Office.
A recent survey by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly showed that about 60% of elderly people find it difficult to integrate with their children and grandchildren due to the generation gap and differences in lifestyle. About 40% of elderly people said they have difficulty using modern technology, increasing the feeling of being lost and lonely...
The above data shows that the situation of the elderly in Vietnam being "abandoned" and not being able to integrate with their children and grandchildren is an alarming problem that needs to be paid attention to and resolved promptly.
And one of the solutions, both practical and humane, giving very positive results is technology classes like some localities are organizing.
We hope that in the future, useful classes like this will be replicated in almost all localities, especially remote areas, so that more elderly people can find the joy of living in technology!
