Lao Cai and many other northern mountainous provinces have been facing heavy losses in human lives and property due to storms and floods. Amidst these difficulties, the spirit of mutual love and the Vietnamese tradition of "helping each other" has once again been promoted. Many organizations and individuals have actively participated in supporting and helping people in distress.
However, sadly, in that context, there are still people who take advantage of people's pain and loss to make profits, through fraudulent tricks calling for charitable donations on social networks.
Charity scams are not a new phenomenon. Since previous storms and floods, social media fundraising has become an opportunity for profiteers. Every time a major storm occurs, they recur, causing panic in the community.
In Lao Cai, as the local Department of Information and Communications warned, many unverified calls for donations have been circulated, asking people to transfer money to anonymous personal accounts. This not only causes financial losses but also damages the community’s trust in genuine charitable activities.
Taking advantage of other people's pain and loss to commit fraud is a condemnable and unforgivable act. Those who commit this act not only violate the law but also betray the human values of society, tarnishing the meaning of solidarity and sharing between people. Authorities need to take strong action and strictly handle these fraudulent acts to protect the purity of charitable activities.
However, we cannot rely on the authorities. People - kind-hearted people across the country - can also contribute to preventing this by loving, showing the spirit of mutual love and solidarity, and showing solidarity in the right way and at the right place.
It is always important to be vigilant against unofficial calls on social networks, especially personal accounts. When receiving information calling for donations, the most important thing is to check the source of the information and verify the transparency of the calling account.
We should only make donations through official channels, accounts managed by reputable organizations such as the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, state agencies, or licensed charitable organizations.
In the digital age, everyone has the responsibility to master information, act consciously and responsibly. Let's join hands, both helping our fellow countrymen and being vigilant against bad behavior, so that all sharing goes to the right address, to the right people who really need help!
