Increase pensions to improve the lives of the majority of poor retirees

Voters and people hope that the Party and State will continue to adjust pension increases commensurate with salary increases for officials and civil servants.

The above content is part of a report synthesizing opinions and recommendations of voters and people sent to the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly, presented by Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien on October 21.

According to the report, voters who receive salaries from the state budget are happy and excited about their salary increase, basic prices are stable, and their lives are improved.

Salaried people are excited about getting a raise, but for retirees, it's not really fair to keep receiving the same pension.

Pensions have been adjusted to increase, but the cost of living has increased, all living expenses increase every year, so the life of retirees is still difficult. Every year the value of money is lost a little due to rising prices, and the pension increase may not be able to compensate, that is a fact that everyone knows.

Most workers are poor, have no savings, and not everyone has children to support them, relying only on a small pension. Many workers receive low pensions and have to calculate and save on spending to get by.

But life in retirement is often "unusual" in terms of health. There are times when you get sick, you will fall into difficulties, lacking everything. At this time, having a little extra money, no matter how small, is very meaningful to the poor.

Therefore, the proposal to increase pensions is very reasonable and needs to be studied to meet voters' wishes.

Article 67 of the Law on Social Insurance 2024 stipulates pension adjustment: Pension is adjusted based on the increase in the consumer price index in accordance with the capacity of the state budget and social insurance fund.

Accordingly, from July 1, 2025, the Social Insurance Law 2024 takes effect, civil servants, public employees and armed forces can have their pensions adjusted based on the increase in the consumer price index.

The 15% pension increase in early July was a balanced effort by the State, and retired workers were very excited. However, pensioners hope that with the recent salary increase for officials and civil servants, the State will consider adjusting the pension increase accordingly.
