Since its establishment with 34 soldiers, the Vietnam People's Army has gone through 80 years of growth and maturity, affirming its position as a heroic army, not only protecting the Fatherland but also contributing to regional and world peace.
As emphasized by General Secretary To Lam at the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People's Army: "Our army is the core force in protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland, closely attached to the people, and at the same time ready to meet new requirements in modern warfare and international missions."
The Vietnam People's Army not only plays a frontline role in wars to protect the Fatherland but is also a key force in peacetime. From natural disaster prevention, search and rescue to epidemic response, the Vietnam People's Army is always present in the most difficult places, creating trust and a solid support for the people.
The image of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” sharing food and clothes, sacrificing for their fellow countrymen during recent historic storms and floods or the COVID-19 pandemic has been deeply engraved in the hearts of people across the country. “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” are not only symbols of bravery but also embodiments of humanity, solidarity and social responsibility.
Not stopping there, the People's Army also made its mark on the international arena with important contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions. The Vietnamese blue beret soldiers carry the message of peace, friendship and responsibility, affirming Vietnam's role in the international community.
The new context has posed new demands on the Vietnam People's Army. The challenges from cyber warfare and non-traditional threats pose an urgent requirement: The Army must constantly innovate, modernize and improve its combat capabilities. At the same time, "Firmly pursuing the goal of national independence and socialism, the Vietnam People's Army needs to maintain the absolute and direct leadership of the Party, combine national strength with the strength of the times, build an all-people national defense associated with the people's security posture and the people's hearts posture" - as General Secretary To Lam said at the ceremony.
Over the past 80 years, the Vietnam People's Army has made its mark with resounding victories and made unceasing contributions to the cause of protecting and building the country. The recognition from the Party, the State and the people through noble awards, especially the Ho Chi Minh Medal, is proof of these great contributions.
But above all, the most precious reward for the Vietnam People's Army is the trust and love of the people, the title "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" bestowed by the people for generations!
