Doctors warn of risks from mixed creams and cosmetics of unknown origin

The cosmetics market today has many products advertised with the effect of whitening skin, treating melasma, and quickly treating acne.

However, according to dermatologists, many of these products pose a risk of seriously affecting skin health.

MSc. Dr. Nguyen Thuy Ai Chau - General Planning Department, Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital said that the term "mixed cream" currently has no unified legal or professional definition. In fact, this phrase is often used to refer to handicraft mixed products or cosmetics of unknown origin, not fully declared ingredients, not licensed for circulation or with ingredients that do not match the information written on the label.

According to doctors, consumers need to be wary of products that do not clearly state the manufacturer, the unit responsible for putting the product on the market, the ingredients or the number to receive the cosmetic product announcement form. In particular, it is necessary to be cautious with advertisements such as "white skin after a few days", "quick melasma treatment" or "commit to absolute effectiveness".

One of the worrying risks is that some rapid skin whitening products have been found by authorities to contain corticosteroids or active ingredients not allowed in cosmetics. These products can make skin white and bright quickly but are only temporary and potentially have many unwanted effects.

Dr. Nguyen Thuy Ai Chau emphasized that corticosteroids are medicines and should only be used as prescribed by a doctor. Prolonged application or improper use can cause skin atrophy, skin thinning, vasodilation, stretch marks, acne, pertussis, slow wound healing and increase the risk of skin infections. In cases of widespread or prolonged use, this active ingredient can also be absorbed into the body and affect overall health.

Experts recommend that people should choose cosmetics with clear origins, announced according to regulations and purchased at reputable distribution facilities to limit risks to the skin.
