Dark circles and wrinkles around the eyes are common signs of premature aging, making the face look tired and less cheerful.
Many people choose eye cream as a solution to improve this condition. However, according to dermatologists, not all creams are as effective as expected. The most important factor is the active ingredients in the product.
Ameesha Mahajan, a dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon, founder of Eden Skin Clinic (India), said that dark circles and wrinkles form due to many factors such as genetics, lack of sleep, natural aging and exposure to sunlight.
However, she affirmed that using eye cream containing the right ingredients can still help to significantly improve this sensitive skin area.
Retinoids
The first recommended ingredient is retinoids, including retinol and retinaldehyde, which are derivatives of vitamin A that are known for their anti-aging properties.
According to Dr. Mahajan, retinoids stimulate collagen production and promote cell regeneration, thereby helping to firm the skin and fade small wrinkles and crow's feet.
However, because the skin around the eyes is very thin, users should start with low levels, only use it at night and always combine sunscreen during the day.
Peptide
These are amino acid chains that help stimulate the skin to produce collagen and elastin. When used regularly, peptides help tone the skin under the eyes, reduce wrinkles and improve elasticity.
Doctors recommend finding peptides such as Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Copper Peptides or Acetyl Hexapeptide-8-8
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is also an indispensable active ingredient thanks to its strong antioxidant properties. This ingredient helps inhibit melanin production, lighten dark circles caused by pigmentation and supports collagen synthesis.
To limit irritation, you should choose stable forms of vitamin C such as Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate or Ascorbyl Glucoside.
Hyaluronic acid (HA)
Hyaluronic acid (HA) plays a deep role in moisturizing the skin around the eyes. With the ability to retain water many times its weight, HA helps smooth skin, reduce dry wrinkles and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Niacinamide
Niacinamide helps strengthen the skin barrier, reduce inflammation, brighten dark circles and limit eye bags. When combined with vitamin C or hyaluronic acid, the effectiveness of eye care is further enhanced.
Dr. Mahajan also notes that when applying eye cream, do not rub but use your little finger to pat gently.
apparent effects usually only appear after 8-12 weeks of persistent use, and sunscreen is still an indispensable step to prevent dark circles from getting heavier.
