Pediatricians remind parents of signs of dengue fever to take their children to the hospital immediately

When children have dengue fever, parents need to recognize typical signs to take their children to the doctor in time.

BS.CKII Nguyen Minh Tien - Deputy Director of Children's Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City - said that when a child with dengue fever shows abnormal signs such as severe abdominal pain, restlessness, vomiting blood, black stools, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, cold hands and feet, lethargy or lying in one place, parents need to take the child to the hospital immediately.

Children's hospitals all have emergency doctors on duty 24/24 hours, including at night. Therefore, parents should not wait until morning when the child has shown warning signs.

According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, in fact, there are cases where children show abnormal symptoms at night, but families delay taking them to the hospital. At about 6 am, when the child was taken to the hospital, the condition had turned into severe shock, blood pressure was difficult to measure, making treatment more difficult.

Therefore, when parents notice any warning signs for children, they need to take the child to a medical facility immediately for assessment and timely treatment, and should not monitor at home or wait until morning.
