According to Cho Ray Hospital, the demand for cardiovascular treatment at end-line hospitals is increasing rapidly, in the context that cardiovascular disease is still one of the leading causes of death not only in Vietnam but also worldwide. This reality poses an urgent requirement for high-tech investment, synchronous systems and deep professional development.
The new system includes 4 modern DSA machines, including 3 Azurion 5M20 machines specializing in interventional cardiology, allowing the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery diseases, structural heart disease, congenital heart disease and peripheral vessels. Many technologies are equipped for the first time such as StentBoost Live to enhance stent display in real time, shorten procedure time and reduce radiation dose for patients; CT TAVI Planning supports automatic CT cardiology data analysis, helping to accurately select heart valves; VesselNavigator supports anatomical positioning, reducing complications and hospitalization time.
At the same time, the cardiac catheterization room is fully equipped with hemodynamic support facilities for high-risk cases such as IABP, ECMO, along with IVUS, OCT intravascular imaging systems and complex atherosclerosis treatment equipment. This is considered an important technological weapon in handling cases of chronic obstruction, severe calcification, and situations with high risk of death.
BSCKII Pham Thanh Viet, Acting Director, Deputy Director of Cho Ray Hospital, said that cardiovascular disease is no longer a single professional issue but has become a global medical challenge. "The major limitation today lies not only in specialized human resources but also in modern equipment and the synchronization of the system," he emphasized.
Reality shows that in the period 2024–2025, Cho Ray Hospital has performed more than 11,000 coronary angiography and over 7,000 stenting and stent placement cases. Recently, a patient with acute myocardial infarction with cardiac arrest on the way to the intervention room was rescued, coronary artery recirculation and stent placement were successful, one of thousands of complex interventions performed each year.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Tri Thuc, Deputy Minister of Health, assessed that the interventional cardiovascular system helps improve accuracy, safety, shorten hospital stays, reduce complications and treatment costs. At the same time, the system also contributes to protecting medical staff from the risk of radiation exposure.
According to BSCKII Pham Thanh Viet, the deep specialization process in cardiology has helped detect many diseases that were previously not fully identified. However, equipment investment always faces challenges in terms of funding and technology development speed. Over the past time, with the support of the Ministry of Health through key projects, including a 500 billion VND investment project, Cho Ray Hospital has gradually completed the cardiovascular system in a synchronous direction.
This synchronization is what determines the quality of treatment, not just a few modern machines," Mr. Viet affirmed. The introduction of a modern interventional cardiac catheterization system is expected to create a foundation for the deeper development of the cardiovascular specialty, better meeting the increasing burden of cardiovascular disease in the community.
