Hit by a broken branch, a woman suffered multiple fractures and traumatic brain injury

Ho Chi Minh City - On September 19, Cho Ray Hospital said it is actively treating a 57-year-old female patient who was crushed by a broken tree, leading to multiple injuries.

According to the Emergency Department, Cho Ray Hospital, the patient was transferred from An Binh Hospital at 11:40 PM on September 18. Previously, the patient and her husband were crushed by a broken tree on An Duong Vuong street, Cho Quan ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

Upon admission, the patient was conscious, Glasgow 15 points, pulse 102 beats/minute, blood pressure 150/90 mmHg, breathing rate 20 beats/minute. The patient had swelling in the head area, deformed right wrist, pain in the chest spine and right ribs.

Examination and diagnostic imaging results showed that the patient had subdural subdural hematoma, T6 vertebrae fracture, right 3-5-6 rib fracture, and partial hypothalamic collapse of both lungs. In addition, the patient also had a closed fracture of 1/3 below the right tibia and a fracture of the tibia near the third toe of the right foot.

BS.CKII Le Doan Khac Duy, Department of Neurosurgery, Cho Ray Hospital, said that the patient was initially treated at the front line and had a leg brace. After receiving her, doctors performed CT scans of the skull, chest, thoracic spine, lumbar spine and necessary tests.

The hospital also consulted relevant specialists, including Thoracic Surgery and Neurosurgery, to agree on treatment directions. The patient was fitted with a plaster on the right calf and transferred to the Department of Neurosurgery for further monitoring.

According to Dr. Duy, after the treatment process, the patient's clinical condition has improved. Currently, the patient is awake, has good contact, vital signs are stable and continues to be monitored and treated actively.
