On August 24, news from the Interventional Cardiology Department, Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital said that they had just coordinated with experts from Children's Hospital 1 to successfully perform the technique of placing a stent to narrow the aortic wall for a 4-year-old child.
According to Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, this is the first time this technique has been deployed at the hospital, marking the mastery of another complex technique in the treatment of congenital heart disease.
Notably, right next to the intervention area, the child patient was pre-placed with an artery tube blocking device.
If complications of ruptured blood vessels occur during intervention, the patient is at risk of cardiac arrest right in the intervention room. Therefore, the team must perform the operations meticulously and accurately.
The patient has a history of premature birth, had a major arteriovenous stenosis that seriously affected respiratory function and had to be on a ventilator for 5 months. The patient could only breathe again on her own after being placed with an arteriovenous stent in Ho Chi Minh City.
During periodic monitoring, diagnostic imaging results showed that the patient showed aortic lumen stenosis.
The narrow position hinders blood flow, increasing pressure on the lower organs.
Doctors have intervened to resolve the stenosis, limiting the risk of affecting the function of important organs due to ischemia.
After intervention, the ultrasound results showed that the patient's heart rate was stable. The blood flow velocity at the narrow position decreased significantly, and the condition of blood flow swirling causing an aneurysm above and below the waist segment was overcome.
The patient recovered stably after a few days, was discharged from the hospital, continued regular check-ups and used anticoagulants according to the treatment regimen.
