Quang Tri - Provincial General Hospital promptly rescued a 35-week pregnant woman with a rare amniotic fluid hemorrhage.

On February 14, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that the unit had just successfully performed emergency surgery for a critical case of a pregnant woman due to amniotic fluid bleeding.

Previously, on February 12, the Obstetrics Department - Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital received pregnant woman Le Thi Anh Nguyet (33 years old, residing in Dong Ha, Quang Tri province) admitted to the hospital at 35 weeks and 3 days of pregnancy.

Through initial examination and ultrasound, the on-duty team discovered images of fibrin bands in the amniotic cavity. The pregnant woman was closely monitored by obstetric monitoring.

Ultrasound results later showed a blood clot, suspecting amniotic fluid bleeding. Recognizing this as an emergency situation, doctors immediately indicated emergency cesarean section.

When the abdominal cavity was opened, the entire amniotic cavity was filled with red blood, and there were many large blood clots around the umbilical cord. The cause was determined to be that the umbilical cord abnormally attached to the edge of the umbilical cord, breaking blood vessels and causing massive bleeding into the amniotic cavity.

Thanks to the timely and smooth coordination between the Departments of Obstetrics - Pediatrics - Anesthesia and Resuscitation, the team urgently performed surgery, bringing the baby safely to life. The baby cried loudly immediately after birth.

Currently, the health of both mother and baby is stable.

According to doctors, amniotic fluid bleeding is an extremely rare obstetric emergency, estimated at about 1/5. 000 pregnancies. This disease usually progresses suddenly, without warning signs, directly threatening the life of the fetus if not treated promptly. The fetal mortality rate can be up to over 90% if detected and intervened late.
