Faced with the risk of re-infection from previous Adenovirus infections, doctors recommend proactively taking preventive measures to protect health.

Parents proactively prevent diseases for children

Recently, information about Adenovirus increases has caused many parents to worry because this is a virus that can cause many respiratory and eye diseases, especially in young children. Therefore, many families have proactively strengthened disease prevention measures for their children.

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Anh (Tuong Mai ward, Hanoi) said that her child is 2 and a half years old this year and is often taken out by her family to play. Depending on locations such as parks or indoor playgrounds, she cleans and disinfects her child before and after playing to limit the risk of infectious diseases.

Recently, I have heard a lot of information about Adenovirus, especially in Hanoi, so I am quite worried. To prevent the disease, I always pay attention to personal hygiene for my child when going out," Ms. Phuong Anh shared.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thu Linh (Bach Mai ward, Hanoi) also proactively strengthens the resistance of her children.

When I learned that Adenovirus can be transmitted through air or in places like swimming pools, I became even more careful. In addition to putting my child on a mask when necessary, the family also focuses on nutrition, supplementing vitamin C, encouraging children to exercise and get enough sleep to improve resistance," Ms. Linh said.

Having Adenovirus can still cause reinfection

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Vu Huy - Senior Lecturer of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Hanoi Medical University - said that Adenovirus causes diseases in humans with more than 50 different types. This virus is very small in size, so it easily spreads in the air and droplets when the patient coughs or sneezes.

According to experts, Adenovirus also has the ability to survive for quite a long time outside the environment. Therefore, this virus not only transmits through direct contact but can also transmit through surfaces, intermediate objects, such as unsanitary swimming pools.

Another characteristic of Adenovirus is that they can be transmitted through food. This is a point that people also need to pay attention to in the disease prevention process," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS Bui Vu Huy.

Notably, each person after getting sick only becomes immune to the infected virus type, while Adenovirus has many different types. Therefore, a person can completely get Adenovirus many times if infected with other types.

It is entirely possible that patients who have had Adenovirus will still re-infect. Therefore, the increase in the number of cases at each time is not too unusual," the expert said.

To effectively prevent the disease, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Vu Huy recommends that people should not be too panicked, the important thing is to equip themselves with correct knowledge about Adenovirus and monitor information from official sources of the health sector.

In addition, each family needs to proactively monitor the health of their members. When suspected symptoms appear during an epidemic, patients should go for an early check-up, wear masks, limit contact with people around and take personal hygiene and respiratory hygiene measures to reduce the risk of spreading in the community.
