On December 15, information from the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control said that since the beginning of the year, Gia Lai has recorded more than 148 cases of measles, with no deaths.
In particular, there was a week when the locality recorded 34 cases of the disease. Previously, the World Health Organization warned that Gia Lai was one of the seven provinces in Vietnam at high risk of measles.
Due to the complex epidemiological characteristics of the disease, measles has the ability to spread quickly and widely. In addition to the number of measles cases that have been treated, the Gia Lai Health Department has also recorded many cases of rash fever suspected of measles that have been isolated and treated.
Of which, there were 49 cases at the Tropical Department (Gia Lai Provincial Children's Hospital); 6 cases at KBang District Medical Center; 1 case at Hospital 331 and 1 case at the Provincial General Hospital.
Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control has coordinated with District Health Centers to investigate and verify the information. The unit also monitors the case and guides the screening of surrounding areas, implementing disease prevention measures according to regulations.
Gia Lai Province's Health Department is also accelerating the measles-rubella vaccination campaign to prevent the disease for children aged 1-5 years old and medical staff.
Good disease control depends largely on vaccination. Therefore, implementing a vaccination campaign in Gia Lai is an urgent matter.
